If you prefer a hands-on approach, the Blow Torch method is the fastest way to season your titanium or quartz nail. While the oven method is "set it and forget it," this technique allows you to season your gear in just a few minutes.
What You’ll Need:
-
A clean, unseasoned nail.
-
Your favorite seasoning material (like organic coconut oil or food-grade hemp oil).
-
A butane blow torch.
The Steps:
-
Heat: Use your torch to heat the dab nail until it is glowing red hot.
-
Cool: Let the nail cool for about 5 seconds (or until it drops to roughly 500°F/260C). Safety note: If it’s too hot, the oil will just burn off instead of bonding to the surface.
-
Apply: Carefully spread a small amount of your seasoning material around the top and inside of the nail.
-
Bond: If the temperature is just right, you’ll see the oil melt directly into the pores of the material.
-
Cool Down: Allow the nail to cool completely to room temperature before your next session.
-
Repeat: You can repeat this process as needed until your nail is perfectly seasoned.
How to Know It Worked: You’ll know you’ve hit the sweet spot when the appearance of your nail changes:
-
Quartz: Should appear slightly cloudy.
-
Titanium: Should take on a clean, glossy finish.
Pro-Tip: If your nail is smoking excessively while applying the oil, it is still too hot! Let it cool for a few more seconds next time to ensure the oil bonds to the pores rather than just incinerating on contact.
